Does Computer Science Count in Your State?
Computer science only counts as a graduation credit (usually in either math or science) in 15 states. In most states a computer science class can be an elective but nothing more. That means that a lot of students who could take computer science don’t take it because they can’t fit it in and still graduate on time. In other places schools don’t even offer computer science because they don’t expect students to want to take it. I found a bunch of online petitions at Change.Org asking various states to correct this problem. I have listed the ones I found at Make Computer Science Courses Count toward Graduation Credits. If you know of others let me know and I will add them. If you live in one of these states please sign the petition for your state. Thanks.
